Domaine Hubert Veneau

The Veneau family have been wine-growers in the region for several generations, but modernisation and expansion took place under the current head, Hubert Veneau, in the late 1970s and 1980s. The two sons are gradually taking up the reins, Bertrand in charge of sales and Jerôme working on the vineyard and winery side.

Pouilly Fumé Dom. des Froids

The 18 year old vines are planted on 18 ha of siliceous soils and are hand picked in several tries to ensure full maturity of grapes. Gentle pneumatic pressing, the use of wild yeasts, and a temperature controlled fermentation (16°c-18°c) in stainless steel vats ensure that the purity, exceptional terroir, and fruit complexity of the wines are brought to the fore..

Style: Delicate and subtle aromas of ripe lemon, grassiness and Turkish delight on the nose, full bodied and rounded on the palate with excellent balancing ripe citrous fruits and a good length.

Coteaux du Giennois Domaine des Ormousseaux

Coteaux du Giennois is a recently created Appellation d'Origine Controllée (it used to be VDQS Coteaux du Gien). The 16ha Domaine des Ormousseaux vineyards face due south, and the 21 year old vines are planted on chalky-clay soils. These represent extremely good quality for money, being from an area where quality is being pushed up, and where growers cannot rely on the name (as yet) of the appellation to sell their wines.

Coteaux du Giennois Blanc

The Blanc is 100% Sauvignon Blanc, and vinified in the same manner as the Pouilly Fumé.

Style: Good Sauvignon Blanc flinty-nettley nose, with mid-full weight on the palate, and good intensity citrous fruits with a clean crisp lemony finish.

Coteaux Giennois Rouge Reserve

The Rouge Reserve is made from Pinot Noir and is aged in a proportion of new French oak.

Style: Mid-light ruby hue, an open nose of roses and cherries, with a smooth, balanced palate, good fruit intensity and a subtle hint of new French oak vanilla.
